Kaira's New Room
There's an old non-functional fireplace in her room, so we put her bed up against it and it looks like a really big, elaborate headboard for her bed. She's got lots of windows and light, and plenty of room to fit her kitchen, easel, etc. She also has a small walk-in closet with a window in it that gets really good light as well, so I decided to make it into a reading nook instead. It's a little messy in the picture, but it has built-in shelves for her books and we put her comfy chair and a bunch of pillows and things in there for her.

Kaira's new playhouse
This is still a work in progress, but the wood that I saved from taking down the walls in the old garage, I used to build a playhouse for Kaira in our new backyard. So far, I've built the foundation, framed the walls, and put the roof joists up. It still needs roofing and siding, which I'm hoping to get to this upcoming weekend (a trip to BR last weekend and rain most of last week have prevented much progress as of late)

Slinky races!
Since I was a kid, I've always wanted a house with stairs, mostly for the sole reason of being able to run slinkies down them. Well, I finally have a two story house, so we had to go to the toy store and buy slinkies to race down the stairs. Of course they don't work nearly as well as you might hope they would, but we had fun trying to make them work anyhow.

Trip to Baton Rouge
We took our first trip back to Baton Rouge to visit last weekend after being in Shreveport fulltime for 2 weeks. We went both for Kaira to see her dad and also to celebrate Lokei's 6th birthday. The hot air balloon race/festival was also going on that weekend, so we went down to see the balloons as well.

Hot air balloons...

Lokei's Bday party at Chuck E Cheese...

And, of course, the big event of the month...

Kaira's First Day of Kindergarten!

Pictures of her classroom...
There are three tables for them to do their papers and projects at. There is also a SmartBoard at the front of the room for those who know what it is (kind of a mix between a projector screen and a touch-screen computer - very cool). The 'map of America' rug is where they do their circle time and read stories as a class. The third picture is the teacher's desk and the computer station. And the last picture is the birthday chart for her class (she's the only October!)

In addition to the main classroom area, there are also three small rooms off of the main one that have different activity centers in them. The first one is the reading room and has bookshelves and a playhouse to read in. The second room has a playmat and cars to go with it on one side, and another playmat with dolls/barbies on the other side. The second room is also supposed to be getting some sort of sand table in it also, but it won't be here til next week. The third room has a play kitchen and crib/changing table for baby dolls. This room is also supposed to be getting some more stuff that hasn't arrived yet - a puppet theater and a play grocery store are on the way.

Some pictures from the first day of school... Kaira on the steps in front of the school... Kaira with her teacher, Mrs. Hight... Kaira playing with some classmates before class started

Just as class was getting started - sitting down on the rug for storytime with all her classmates (there are 13 in the class total)... Right before I picked her up at the end of the day, putting her papers in her folder to take home... some artwork she made at school

The rest of these pictures were actually taken this summer on one of the many trips we took up to check out schools, houses, etc. They are of the outside of her school and also of one of the playgrounds (there are at least 2, but I'm pretty sure 3 total).

Aug 20th - Some new pictures to add on real quick...

Kaira's 1st (self-imposed) Haircut
While Kaira was supposed to be in her room coloring, she managed to get a hold of her kids' scissors and decided that her bangs needed a trim (despite the fact that I just trimmed them earlier this week to get them out of her eyes!). I guess pretty much every kid does this at one point or another. All I could do was laugh... and grab the camera. And even funnier is the fact that she thinks she looks good - she likes the new haircut. Oh well. It will grow out eventually.

Playhouse Progress
Also some progress on the playhouse... it's still nowhere near done, but did get the siding up on two sides, put the (plexi)glass in one of the windows, got the roof up, and shingled half of the roof. And then the rain started up again, so have to wait to make more progress.

Maggie Moo's
Kaira at our new favorite ice cream place - Maggie Moo's. They mix in the toppings on the frozen marble slab and have a bunch of cool flavors. Today Kaira got the blue Cotton Candy flavored ice cream with M&M's in it, in a waffle cone dipped in chocolate and sprinkes! What more could you ask for? And I think she wore almost as much as she ate! In the last picture, don't know if you can see it but she has blue all down the front of her shirt, skirt, and even on her leg!
(You can also get another look at the wonderful haircut she will be sporting for the next few weeks/months until it grows back out)

Pretty Princess
Playing dress-up with a tiara on, a blanket for a skirt, and a couple of belts for...?

Kindergarten art gallery
Some artwork from the first week of school

The cover of her book - "All About Me"

The pages inside...

"Here is my handprint, it is unique."
"This is my family, please take a peek."

"Here is a cake, it shows my birthday."
"I am special in every way."

A couple of random pictures
The first is Kaira splashing through puddles in the backyard one day after it had rained... the other is of her hair one day after it dried funny and she couldn't get it to lay down (it almost looks like a mullet!)

Med school
And a couple pics from the life of a med school student...
The view of the med school from in front of my house (yes, it really is that close!), my student ID badge, and me in my new doctor's coat (I look oh so official in it!)

... and my new desk - where I probably spend a good 5+ hrs a day, I spend more time at this desk than I do in my bed! :(

Don't know if you can see it too well, but that's my new laptop on the desk too - the MacBook. We are the first med school class to ever try out macs, so we get to be guinea pigs and see how it works out. So far, I am loving mine (I'd been wanting a Mac anyway though).
